MTN Mega Centre, Lagos

Civic and Institutional

Project was won in an open competitive bid. The client, a major Telecommunications company desired to develop a brand of customer experience centres unique in style and content in principal cities within the country, with the Lagos centre as the flagship.

The project was conceived as a shell housing open and free interconnecting spaces, bringing the essence of the outside onto the inside – a sheltered plaza. This was done using lightweight construction of steel and aluminium, together with large glazed openings. Entrance into the Centre is at the first floor level via a pedestrian elliptical tubular-ramp, planned to arouse curiosity and enhance customer expectations as they approach the centre.

This, apart from keeping the U-values low thereby reducing the cooling load within the building, also neutralizes certain pollutants in the air, purifying the atmosphere around the building.

These together with other measures and components employed in the proposal are designed to enhance a good sustainability rating for the building. The project is in the Detailed Design stage, and it is hoped that it will be on site by Q1 of 2019.
